Meet Carlos

Confession…

I hated running.

Like… fake-a-cramp-in-basketball-practice hated it.

Chapter 01 / The beginning

Four weeks, one marathon

I grew up playing basketball and spending weekends on BMX bikes and snowboards. Running was the punishment.

I moved to Montreal. It was a fresh start, and also one of the hardest periods of my life. Feeling lost and disconnected, I signed up for a marathon with only four weeks to prepare. It hurt. I cramped. It took nearly four hours. But when I crossed that finish line, the direction of my life changed. I cried, and then immediately thought: what's next?

Chapter 02 / Figuring it out

Learning to swim, self-coached

Two years later I finished my first 70.3, coaching myself and learning to swim along the way. It was the first time I understood how a huge goal becomes achievable when you break it down one workout at a time.

Six months after that, still self-coached, I ran the Whistler 50K and finished second in my age group. That result made me ask a different question: how much better could I become if I stopped figuring everything out on my own?

Chapter 03 / Another level

Hiring a coach

So I hired a coach. Not because self-coaching had failed, but because I wanted to see how much further I could go. I crossed the finish line of my first full Ironman, in Italy, in 10:32. Six bathroom stops. Still counts.

I kept developing, and years of consistency, curiosity and trust came together at Ironman 70.3 Oregon: 10th in my age group, with the second-fastest bike split in the category. Not talent. Just what happens when you keep showing up.

Leadership at Netflix

Before starting Why Not Endurance, I worked in production leadership at Netflix Animation, managing complex projects, large teams and constantly changing priorities. I understand what it means to pursue ambitious athletic goals while carrying significant responsibilities outside sport.

05

Why Endurance Coaching

Helping people grow has always been my favourite part of every job I've ever had. Whether it was leading production teams, helping a friend train for their first race, or watching an athlete discover they're capable of more than they believed, that's the work that has always mattered most to me. Coaching through endurance sports simply gave me the perfect place to do it.

06

The Philosophy

Every workout deserves a why. Confidence is earned, not through motivation, but through keeping promises to yourself. Honest feedback beats empty encouragement, and endurance is a lifestyle, not just a season.
